Why Choose Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is a simple, minimally invasive procedure that creates the appearance of a fuller head of hair by meticulously placing tiny pigment impressions among existing hair. These existing hairs are sometimes from transplants. Each impression replicates natural hair follicles, creating a realistic look that is surprisingly low-maintenance.

When delivered by one of our experts who has worked with Dr. Epstein for years performing hair restoration surgery, SMP is performed artistically to give the appearance of naturally restored receding hairlines, thicken remaining hair, camouflage existing hair transplant scars, and/or create the look of close-cropped hair.

Scalp micropigmentation is a non-invasive procedure, suitable for men and women. Unlike other hair loss treatments, it gives immediate results with no downtime.

Types of Scalp Micropigmentation Procedures

In Conjunction with Hair Transplants

Depending on the patient, a hair transplant might not be enough to cover all of the thinning areas. In those circumstances, adding SMP to the surgical procedure can enhance the distribution of the hair grafts over a greater surface area. SMP is used to build the appearance of density between the grafts, resulting in a more natural, fuller look.

1. Planning

As an additional step to the hair transplant, your surgeon carefully plans the graft and SMP distribution on your scalp. Also, any donor site scarring from a prior hair transplant procedure can be treated to look much less noticeable, even with the hair cut very short.

2. Pigmentation Session

After allowing the scalp to heal for 2 months, our experts lay the foundation of your new look by matching the newly transplanted hair’s color and density. Every detail—color variance, space filling, follicle thickness, and more—is taken into account to achieve the best results.

3. Second Pigmentation Session

In most patients, a second session is needed to create a denser appearance with more pigmentation delivered to the scalp. This session usually takes place 2 to 4 weeks after the first procedure.

4. Post-Procedure Care

Scalp micropigmentation aftercare is simple and low maintenance. You only need to wash your head on the fourth day after the treatment and, during that time, avoid any strenuous activity that could cause unwanted sweating.

For certain patients, combining SMP with hair transplant surgery can create the appearance of greater hair density than hair transplantation alone.

  • Hi Doctor, I am doing well, I am pleasantly surprised by the beard area healing, it seems to be a lot better than what I experienced with the procedure done by the other doctor (you had mentioned you use a small diameter tool for harvesting than he does). That has me confident the beard area really can be a good...

Scalp Micropigmentation FAQS

How long does scalp micropigmentation last?

Scalp micropigmentation is a form of semi-permanent makeup that lasts for 4 to 5 years. Over time, the pigments may fade, but a touch-up session can restore the original appearance.

Is micropigmentation better than a hair transplant?

The best choice depends on individual needs and preferences. SMP provides immediate results with no downtime and is less expensive than hair transplants. However, it doesn’t promote hair growth; rather, it creates the illusion of fuller hair. Hair transplants, on the other hand, involve moving actual hair follicles to thinning areas, which can be a more permanent solution.

SMP can also complement hair transplants by adding density and depth to transplanted areas, creating a more natural, full appearance. Together, they deliver enhanced results, blending seamlessly for a flawless look.

Does micropigmentation look natural?

When performed by skilled artists using our proprietary medical-grade pigments and 3D layering techniques, SMP ensures results that are unparalleled in their natural look.

Is scalp micropigmentation effective with gray hair?

Yes, SMP can be tailored to match any hair color, including gray. The pigments are color-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

Will I need to shave my head?

Not necessarily. SMP can be performed on both shaved and unshaved heads, depending on your desired look and the extent of hair loss.
